DELMER F-J PLETCHER DDS
January 28, 1913-
CHAMPION OF CALIFORNIA'S EARLY-DAY ARCHERY
Delmer Pletcher will be remembered for his early-day, 1940 -1950, involvement
with archery that included not only his CBH involvement as President of CBH from
1951 to 1954, but his pre-CBH involvement with NFAA. In the early days when NFAA
was just getting started, Delmer Pletcher worked to make CBH a big part of the
NFAA organization. Field courses were the new way for tournament archery, and
Delmer was an active participant in all of it. As president, and because of his
involvement in the Bakersfield club, Delmer actually participated in some of the
early national mail tournaments, winning many a six gold and fellowship
championships, and even won the Central California Bowmen Championship as early
as 1941. In 1942 while serving in the Army during World War II, and while
stationed at Salt Lake City, Utah, he was invited to attend, and won all three
of the Utah State Archery Tournament Championship's, indoor, target and field.
After World War II, Delmer returned to Bakersfield, California and became very
active in California archery's early days and its beginnings. As president of
CBH from 1951 to 1954, he worked and mingled with all of the greats of
bowhunting, guys like Roy Hoff, the Wilhelm brothers, Harold McQuarrie, Nubbie
Pate, and many of the early-day California bowhunters organizations leaders.
While serving CBH as president, Delmer Pletcher was very instrumental in forming
our state organization and its early-day archery only deer seasons, and also in
coordinating northern, central and the southern California associations into one
state archery association, now known as the CBH-SAA. During this time, many news
reports came about on our great sport because of Delmer Pletcher 's exploits and
demonstrations with the bow and arrow.
