JIM DOUGHERTY
September 27, 1936 -
BOWHUNTER - ARCHERY PROMOTER

Born in Los Angeles, Jim began shooting a bow in 1950 after watching tournaments at the Pasadena Roving Archers Range. Although Jim was involved in field archery competition during the late 1950's, his immediate and lasting interest was in hunting. Starting with small game, he went on to successfully take over 100 North American big game animals, 14 species of African game and many species of feral and exotic game.

In 1952 Jim began as a part-time employee of Kittredge Archery Company, working at the Bowhut in South Pasadena. He progressed through the company becoming General Manager in 1964. In 1964 he bought the Bowhut and renamed it Outdoor Outfitters, Inc. From 1967 until 1978 Jim held various management positions for controlling corporations associated with Ben Pearson Archery Company. In 1978, wanting to control his own destiny, Jim formed Jim Dougherty Archery Inc., in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Throughout over 30 years of involvement in Archery, Jim not only participated, he served. He was an officer serving:
California Bowmen Hunters and State Archery Association
Pope and Young Club
American Archery Council
Archery Manufacturers Organization
Archery Incorporated

'He has authored countless articles about bowhunting and varmint calling and helped produce six Archery films. He became the Hunting Editor for Bow and Arrow Magazine. He won 16 World, National and State game calling competitions. He lectures on bow- hunting-related subjects in educational seminars.

From 1966 to 1968 Jim served as Second Vice President in charge of Hunting for CBH & SAA. During this time he helped develop the framework for the California Big Came Club. He was primarily responsible for establishing bowhunting seasons on Catalina Island. Jim was the first Second Vice President for Hunting CBH had. His knowledge and background helped form the foundation for organized bowhunting recording, Big and Small game competition in California.

In recognition for his efforts in furthering Archery, Jim has received nine Honorary Life Memberships including CBH-SAA in 1969. In 1971 he received the Archery Incorporated Award of Merit for Outstanding Contributions to Archery in general and bowhunting in particular.
