STEWART "STEW" FOSTER
August 9, 1908 -
DEDICATED ARCHER



Born in Chillicothe, Missouri. Moved to California that year. First became interested in Archery via hunting in 1935.


Stew soon became involved promoting organized Archery. He was a charter member of Pasadena Roving Archers and the State Field Organization, the California Bowmen Hunters and Field Archers Association, serving as state President in 1945. Stew founded the 45-Degree Flight Club. He helped organize and start exhibitions promoting Archery in general, and wrote many articles promoting bow hunting and the value of good clean kills. He was featured on the cover of Archery Magazine, October 1945.

Stew Foster was a jeweler by trade and used his skills to promote Archery.
He was the designer of California Bowmen Hunters State Emblem, Prize Buck Award and NFAA.'s Ring. He was the designer and sponsor of the Stew Foster Inter Club Trophy that later became the Stew Foster Perpetual Award given at the Annual State Field Tournament.

Stew Foster has left his mark as one of the early builders of Archery in California, and his design of the state field emblem will forever demonstrate to all his dedication to our sport.
