Region 2 Legislative Report 2009

I attended the 4 Al Taucher Committee meetings. January 29th discussion and recommendations to the Fish and Game Commission included, allow only a one power scope on muzzleloaders during any muzzleloader only season. Draft letter to the FGC and Governor to not raid 30 million dollars from the DFG Preservation fund. Review DFG's Modified Preference Point system for Big Game Drawings, this was referred to the Hunting Sub Committee for review and follow up. April 7th discussions included, review upcoming waterfowl and upland game regulations, DFG budget update from Deputy Director John McCamman, DFG update on Commercial Landing and License fees and status on Hunter Safety classes. June 23rd discussion included, update from Judd Hanna on the CA. Game Warden Foundation www.thegwf.org, status of state Game Refuges and the potential of changing (referred to hunting sub committee) and Chief Nancy Foley discussed her acceptance of $5k from HSUS to help fund CalTip and K9 program. September 29th discussion included, update on Calif. Falconry Program Certification by USFW, reviewed upcoming 2010 mammal regulation changes and requested info from DFG on state lands administered by DFG.

I also attended the December 15th Hunting Sub Committee meeting and the discussions included a presentation by DFG Tony Snow on DFG's Point system and other systems, discussed a Petition from the Center of Biological Diversity to the FGC on the Mojave National Preserve.

Attended a COHA/Sportsmen Caucus Dinner Feb. 4th in Sacramento and had general discussions with FGC commissioners and legislatures.

Attended a Placer County FGC meeting Aug. 26th in Auburn, Ca. Agenda item for changing the J20 hunt by increasing number of tags and changing to antler less only tag.

Commission voted 4 to 3 in favor. Now Placer County Board of Supervisors will need to vote.

Attended a DFG scoping session on the upcoming mammal regulation changes. Verbally submitted CBH/SAA proposals to DFG for consideration in their CEQA documents, e-mailed copies to Jon Fisher (FGC),
Craig Stowers (DFG deer cord.) and Doug Updike (DFG).

Attended a COHA fundraiser Dinner Dec. 5 in Sacramento, Partial man the CBH/SAA promotions area and handed out brochures and pamphlets.

Collaborated with IBEP State Chairman Johnnie Waddles for several youth archery events for USFW (4/23), CWA (11/3, 11/5) and DFG (4/25), also partnered with Johnnie for a DFG Wardens IBEP class 4/24
